PARNAÍBA

       The city of Parnaíba is located in the region north of the Piauí, having consisted great part of its city in an aluvial plain formed by the delta of the river Parnaíba, that shelters exotic lagoons, dunes and about seventy islands and islets, forming itself it our eyes a explorável gostosa wonder of the nature.                                              The greater of all the islands of the delta is the Great island of Isabel Saint, next to the center to the city, where it finds the beach of the Rock of the Salt Where the rocks of collate with the sea, two exist coroas.: one of calmness, used to advantage for the fishing, and another one of strong waves, more used for the practical one of the aquatic sport.          

                                     IGREJA DE SANTO ANTONIO The streets of the city are wide and woody and its hot climate is brightened up by the breeze that blows the entire year.             The colonial large houses of century XVIII, conserved well, are gracious monuments of the golden time of the old Village of Are João of the Parnaíba.             The Large house of bigger historical value is known as Great House of the Parnaíba and belonged to the founder of the city, Simplício Days.             The Cathedral of Ours Lady of the Favours, was constructed by Simplício   Days, originally in baroque style, the year of 1770. After reform made in 1936, lost part of its characteristics. PORT OF THE BARKS

 

The Origin of the City of Parnaíba is directly on to the locality of the Port of the Barks. Situated to the Edges of the River Igaraçu, arm of the River Parnaíba, the Port is to the right Da Ponte who binds the city to the Great Island of Isabel Saint.

The Region, initially inhabited for Indians, was tamed by return of 1669 for Leonardo de Sá and its friends, who in virtue of the fact had gained one would sesmaria of land in the edges of that river.                                                     PORTO DAS BARCAS

  In 1761 Village was created the called city of Is João of the Parnaíba, later transferred of the place White Forehead, first headquarters, to the Port of the Barks, that offered better conditions for the nesting of the new Village. Port of the Barks      landmark of the foundation of the city, continued to play preponderant role in the economy of the region, when then the commercial transactions with Portugal, Spain, England and Germany had been constructed to immense warehouses used for stockage of imported merchandises and exportation, being distinguished.                                                                    For 1940 return, with the fall of the prices of the wax of carnaúba and babaçu   in the international market, the decay of the supremacy of the external market started, later the reached market of brutal form, for the advent of the highways. The fact took the city of Parnaíba the position of isolation, which had to the weakness of the navigability of the river Parnaíba.                                                                                 Currently, Parnaíba consists collecting center of vegetal extrativos products, having in its area modern industries of transformation with increasing commercial activity and excellent chances for exploration of latent potentials, since the primary sector until   the tourist activity, for are placed in tropical region, that shelters one of the three only Deltas of the world in opened sea, besides offering to the visitors an exuberant nature.                                                                                                                              The restoration of the Port of the Barks contributed to make to reviver to the good times of its movement. Where old it was the base of the economy of the city, today one breathes culture and preservation, at the same time where if it can make use of excellent area of leisure and tourist destination.
